DESCRIZIONE:

The project idea for the pian /ayout come up from the study and anolysis of an ancient ond troditionol mosaic typical of Libyan culture, which we have seen inside the Karamonli Mosque in Tripoli. This mosaic piane is characterized by its division through slicing and extraction of close regular shapes: circle and square, that repeated ond cros­sed create complex pattern and suggestive aggre­gation.

The regu/ar pian wos obtained by drowing o 11module” made with a structural square grid of 5,00xS,00 ml, within three ellipses are inscribed, their axes ore constructed by the intersection of circular shape whose diameter is equa/ to four mo­dules.

LIBRARY SIZE

according to the international standards for sizing a city library is necessary start from the number of the inhabitants, and fo/lowing specific parameters is possib/e to estimate the space surfaces, fhe building volume and the required seating.

The way for planning sma/1 /ibrary or spaces p/aced into a specific context, such as on University, with a we/1-defined catchment area and c/ass of users, is to make on estimation of how many people wi/1 use the area, a cultura/ heritage materiai and the number of seats. So it is possib/e to estimate the surface necessary to ac­commodate al/ these requirements.

And from these two points the project start the study:

  • Catchment area: TRIPOLI UNIVERSITY
  • Seating: 100 – 120

Following the international standard parameters ,suggested from real experience, were defined the typical functional areas for on University Library. These were translated into square meters and the spaces were designed for the diff erent f unctions:

  1. Seating (different method of consultation use)
  2. Document archives ( diversified by areas and type of storage)
  3. Staff (front office and back office) and utilities areas

The surface is ca/led Programmed Net Surface (PNS), necessary for specific activity development. For library of sma// dimension it is necessary to add a coefficient that take into consideration the other spaces such as the corridors, the access rooms and the te­chnical areas. So we need to increase the PNS of about 32% and obtained the Programmed Gross Surface (PGS):

For our project is about 2.000,00 sqm

which 750,00 sqm for the ground floor.
